Don't
know what it's been like where you are but we've had some proper harsh
weather here this week, so here's a mix of rainy day music I put
together this morning while the heavens opened outside.
It's mostly loungey downtempo stuff, with nods to hip-hop, jazz, disco and soul along the way.
I suspect it *might* work equally well on a sunny afternoon. I'll let you know about that when summer decides to arrive...

52M-015: Bare Grillz
Summer
and long balmy sunny days approach us (optimistic as ever) so I thought
i'd jump the gun and knock out a BBQ mixtape. I'll probably do a few of
these as the warmer weather gets more consistent, and this one's quite a
relaxed mix to get us started. A "soaking the firelighters and
prepping the Pimms" or "welcoming guests to the lawn" selection, if you
will.
Make sure your guests/kids don't mind bad language cos there's a bit of it on the hip-hop tracks. Thing is if you're doing it right the guests will be swearing over how fucking good your grilled meats are, so no worries in the long run.
Enjoy! and always ensure your poultry is thoroughly cooked through...
Tracklist:
Rick James - Getting It On (In The Sunshine)
Walter Jackson - It's Cool
Blackpocket - Al Softly
B Bravo - Orfeo (Will You Stay)
Ice Cube - It Was A Good Day
Kid Cudi vs George Benson - Breezin' Day & Night (Jimi Needles Blend)
Chocolate Milk - Action Speaks Louder Than Words
Olympics - Papa Will
Thomas East - Sister Funk
Gramatik - In This Whole World
Hawkeye - Meet Me At The Roosevelt
Dr Dre & Snoop Dogg - Still D.R.E. (Freddie Joachim Summer Groove Refix)
Freddie Cruger feat. ADL - Special Lady
The Magic In Threes - Neal's Lament
Guru - Look To The Sun
Palov & Mishkin - Re-De-Troit
MFSB - Let's Party Down
Pimp Rekker vs Sean Paul - Mission Like Glue (Marky de Sade Mashup)
Tunde Mabadu - Viva Disco (Instrumental)

52M-012: Eclectronica Pt.2
It's another delve into the electronica crates this week with a
selection that starts off all moody dubby halftimey bassy, and
eventually shifts up a gear to encompass a bit of a future funk, big
beat and shouty set of finishers. Definitely a few nappy-fillers here,
so make sure you're wearing sturdy strides.

52M-010: Live @ De Cuba 10/03/12
This is what I tend to get up to on a Saturday night...
An hour or so of sunshine party music taken from my 5-hour set last night at Cardiff's Vodka Revolution nightclub. I play upstairs in the Revolucion De Cuba rum-bar most Saturdays so the order of the day here is a healthy slice of summery funk, goodtime disco and latin vibes. As usual with one of my party sets there's the odd bootleg, remix, and cock-up (can't win 'em all). I hope you like.
*shakes maracas*

Jem Stone - Teleparp
DJ Marky & XRS - LK (J-Sound Mix)
Badboe feat. MC Coppa - One Of Those Days

The Dancefloor Outlaws - Regulate

Breakestra - Little Miss Funky Sole (Drilla Edit)
A Skillz - Poppa Soul
DJ Twister - Blow Your Tambourine

52M-009: Future Funk 2
It's
been far too long since my last Future Funk mix and, with crippling
popular demand* for another one, I finally pulled my finger out and
sorted it this weekend.
The theme here is modern takes on funk: so there's everything from the sublime and soulful (Buscrates, Electric Wire Hustle, Blackpocket) to bassy neck-snappers (Leonard DStroy, Lopez) via out-and-out nu-funk gems (Darkhouse Fam, Max Butter, B.Bravo) and leftfield electro-wonk (Salva, Funkineven).
It's all over the place stylistically but that's kind of the point. Strap yourself in and get your funk on...
* two people.
Tracklist:
Buscrates 16-Bit Ensemble - Theme For The People
B.Bravo feat. Lady Alma - Substance
Max Butter - Crashed
Salva feat. Zackey Force Funk - 40 Karats
Vlooper - Un Suit Case Eglise (GLGN Remix)
Blackpocket - UR A Sta (DBridge Remix)
Darkhouse Fam feat. B.Bravo - Like No Other
Amin Payne - Midnight Vibrations
Leonard Dstroy - Sunset Marquis
Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman (Buscrates Electro Funk Hop Mix)
BoomBaptist - Toucan Wing
Lopez - Frutika
B.Bravo - Right On Time (Synth Dub)
Electric Wire Hustle - Experience (Instrumental)
Stevo - Pad Pusher
Tall Black Guy - At Ease
Onra - Moving
Julien Dyne - Toe
Max Butter - PMDRMX
Dam Funk - 10 West
Funkineven - She's Acid

52M-001: Let's Get Ill
Off we go then...here's the very first installment in my 52 Mixtapes project. It's a lively, party-starting mix of hip-hop, funk, a bit of jazz, plenty of turntablism and a bit of mashupping. There's a few old favourites in there (i'll never get bored of that Cut Chemist remix of Shadow's "Number Song") as well as a few more recent treats.
I'm scraping the minimum timeframe barrel (this one clocks in at just over 32mins) but hey: it's still obeying the rules. And it's Friday. Which this mix will hopefully enforce with gusto. Plus i'm not exactly going to chuck my wad with a 2hour megamix in the opening week.
As usual: two turntables, a mixer, Torq...and some swearing. Enjoy!
Tracklist:
Redman - Ooooh Intro
Krafty Kuts - We Do This
Glenn Miller - In The Mood (Funk Ferret & Goodgroove Remix)
Major Lazer - Hold The Line (DJ C Remix)
James Brown - Funky Drummer (Listen To The Muro Mix)
DJ Shadow - The Number Song (Cut Chemist Remix)
Q-Tip - Vivrant Thing
De La Soul - Ring, Ring, Ring (Ha, Ha Hey)
Diesler - Real Cold
Redman - Let's Get Dirty (Acapella)
The Beekeepers - Transcript
The Chi-Lites - The Devil Is Doing His Work (Disco Tech Edit)
Download
MASSIVE thanks to everyone Facebooking, Tweeting and ReBlogging this blog. You're all ace.
